Q: Is it ok for a school PTA to sponsor outside groups/organizations/programs wanting to meet at APS school facilities so that the outside group doesn’t have to pay a fee?

A: PTAs need to be careful about what they sponsor at their school – which can mean a waiver of school building fees for PTA/PTSA sponsored events which directly benefit their students and families. The principal approves the PTA’s request for use of the school building if the school agrees to pay for custodian fees, utilities, etc. If the program is supporting students and families within the school, then the PTA can sponsor – but they need to monitor the program and have PTA representation/committee keeping up with the program. In the end, it is really up to the PTA to decide what is important to their school community, but something like this should be brought to the general membership as it would be a large budget item.
